Gabrielle Sequeira Lucero

MSc Candidate

Northern Arizona University, School of Earth and Sustainability

Gabby started in the Environmental Science & Policy M.S. program at Northern Arizona University in 2023 under the direction of Dr. Duan Biggs. Her interests are in participatory restoration applications, environmental community-building, and environmental/climate peace and conflict studies. Her thesis work focuses on local stakeholders' perceptions of participatory mangrove restoration projects along Egypt's Red Sea coast, which she became interested in after spending time in Egypt studying sustainable development. She plans to partner with local coastal ecology researchers as well as local students involved in Red Sea mangrove restoration projects to conduct surveys and interviews with stakeholders about their perceptions of the restoration projects.

Gabby earned her B.A. in Environmental & Sustainability Studies from Northern Arizona University, with an emphasis in Global Sustainability and minors in International Studies and Arabic. She has worked as a research associate for the Environmental Peacebuilding Association and on threat mapping for the IUCN Red List, and is currently an academic advisor for undergraduates in Environmental Science and Studies majors. In her free time, Gabby loves hiking and swimming, reading novels, and travel backpacking!
