Philosophy: conservation in the Anthropocene
Human activity is the dominant force of change on earth, and our impact as humans will be visible for millions of years in the geological record and conservation of the world’s biodiversity is more urgent than ever. However, we need to account for the complexities of a highly connected world and the social-ecological systems (tightly knit systems of people and nature) in which interventions play out. Therefore, for conservation to be resilient and adaptable we need to understand and leverage the needs and aspirations of the multi-cultural and diverse communities that live with, and care about nature in our policies and initiatives.
